Change SID in Windows Server 2012 R2

June 29, 2014

Most of the time when i was in the class @ testing some Windows Server / clients function, this error pop up stated that something about SID.

This is happen when I clone the VHDx because i do not want to keep installing many vhdx images for testing purposes.

So, to solve this issue, we need to use sysprep on the Windows Server 2012 R2.

** For those who lazy to google what is sysprep all about, here are a bit of info about sysprep.

SYSPREP a.k.a System Preparation tool is a technology that you can use with other deployment tools to install Windows OS with minimal intervention by an administrator or technician. Sysprep is typically used during large-scale rollouts when it would be too slow and costly to have administrators or technicians interactively install the operating system on individual computers.

Refer to the step by step below :

1 – Open RUN and type sysprep

2 – in sysprep folder, run the sysprep.exe (refer pic)

3 – on the System Preparation Tool 3.14 box, make sure you tick on the Generalize box.. and then click OK..

4 – SYSPREP will run the necessary action and your Windows OS will auto restart.

5 – Next, after Windows restarted, continue with Settings configuration.

6 – Last step, dont forget to set your IP Address and you can now change the Computer name and join to domain successfully.
